How Can I Get My Child to Brush Their Teeth

Make brushing fun:

1. Start early: Dentists recommend starting dental care even before your child's 1st tooth arrives. Wipe down their gums nightly with a soft damp cloth and switch to a toothbrush when their teeth come in (usually around 6 months) start flossing when the teeth start touching (usually around age 2 or 3).

2. Make brushing fun: Turn toothbrushing into a game. Talk about sweeping away the "sugar bugs", play "beat the timer", make funny faces, offer incentives such as a simple reward or a sticker chart, or play their favorite song.

3. Set a good example: If your child sees you flossing they will want to do it to do it too.

4. Tell a story: You can try reading an age appropriate book about taking care of your teeth or letting your child practice brushing their stuffed animal's teeth

5. Choose the right tools: Power toothbrushes spin in a circular motion which helps for more effected brushing. Some power brushes light up or play music to make brushing a little more fun for your child!
